Review of June 2004

Certainly a month of two halves. The first half was very warm, dry and sunny. The temperature exceeded 20ºC on 8 days, with 5 days of rain >1mm, totalling 15mm. The second half was much more unsettled with a predominately showery, unsettled theme as the winds were dominated by a westerly/north westerly airflow. Only 3 days above 20ºC, with 9 days of rain >1mm, totalling 51mm.

Overall, the mean temperature was 14.7ºC, which despite the cool unsettled 2^nd half to the month was still 1.7ºC above the 1971-2000 Durham average. During the month the temperature exceeded 18ºC on 16 days, 11 days climbing above 20ºC. The total rainfall was 66mm, with 14 rain days >1mm. That’s wetter than the Durham average of 54.8mm and 9.9 rain days >1mm. The highest temperature was 25.4ºC (77.7ºF) on the 8^th, and the coldest night time minimum was just 4.5ºC (40.1ºF), on the 21st

In summary, a definite split between the first half and second half of the month weather wise, but overall warmer and wetter than average.
