November 2004 will be remembered as a very settled and perhaps “boring” month. The weather was typified by high pressure with many generally cloudy yet dry days. There was little in the way of rain, storms and frost, and no snow. Most days were mild, although there was a cool spell mid month and at the end of the month. Although the general pattern indicated fairly cloudy weather as a whole, there were a few sunny days, and sunny intervals were observed on most of the mainly cloudy days. Consequently, according to other local stations, sunshine hours were actually slightly above normal.
The mean temperature was 7.2ºC, which is 1.1ºC above the 30
year Durham average. Air frost was recorded on 4 nights, below the Durham average
of 5.8 nights, whilst rainfall was only a fraction of the expected 61.5mm, coming
in at just 13mm.
In summary, a very quiet, settled, mild and dry month.
