Review of November 2005

The month started off changeable and fairly wet, but very mild, with a top temperature of 14.9ºC (58.8ºF). This beats the warmest temperature of November 2004. In fact, it was so mild that the temperature climbed above 14ºC on 5 days in the first half of the month. The second half of November was very sunny, anti-cyclonic and cold. There was 11 air frosts recorded (temperature below 0ºC) during this period, an unusual amount for November and far more than November 2004, which recorded 4 air frosts.

Overall, the rainfall was above average, due to a wet start, sunshine was well above average, but the mean temperature of 5.8ºC was BELOW the Durham 1971-2000 average of 6.1ºC. Quite remarkable to have a colder than average month after such a warm start. This is also the first below average month that I have recorded in 23 full months of observations!
